According to Slashdot news [slashdot.org], there was new data transmission speed record [www.gizmag.co.uk] set by German and Japanese scientists. They managed to transfer 2.56 terabits per second.
Well, this information is extremely hard to comment. What comes to my mind is technological singularity [en.wikipedia.org]. One can only hope, that all those things to come are cool and exciting, and not violent and dangerous..
It takes Arachne Labs network nearly one day to transfer comparable amount of data these days - in fact, it took us almost 12 months to transfer one petabit (1000 terabits):
