Greetings from India ;-) Michael Polák ( ) Přečteno 175180x, 22 komentářů, rubrika: (en) Archive I decided it was time to see myself, how people actualy use Internet in
3rd world countries. So I am writing this article from Delhi, India (physicaly located there, not virtualy!)
I was planning this journey already for a long time,
and now I am here, and it is really something which cannot
be fully described by words. Holy cows are sitting just next
to internet cafes... the connection is sometimes usable, and sometimes just none. To my big disappointment, Internet cafes
are using Windows PCs as expected, but they are connecting
through proxy and no other protocols than http are allowed.
Air conditioned connection costs 20 Rupies per hour, plain
connection 10 Rupies. If you think that connection speed is more important than air-condition, you have never been to India (I am less then 24 hours here, but I already learnt it ;-)
I think this is important information for anyone, who plans
to develop and manufacture ultra-cheap, single-purpose web browsing terminal, so I am in fact doing market research for
Arachne Labs customers directly in front line ;-)
I will keep you updated, if I am still alive or not. So far,
I would like to say hello to all Arachne users in India.
Your country is really.... unbelievable ;-) Others should
read Hitchikers Guide to Galaxy for more details about what
me and my girlfriend are experiencing here.
During our trip to India, we will be available at xchaostinka@yahoo.com, as I cannot get ssh to work. I think
mail.arachne.cz is something which definitely should be done
when we return...
