Arachne maximalist is back from India ;-) Michael Polák ( ) Přečteno 170996x, 25 komentářů, rubrika: (en) Archive Hello all. I am alive and back from India, working on new Arachne release. Clarence Verge published his numerous \'Arachne
Minimalist\' columns while I was trying to recover from
excessive internet addiction in India. I don\'t know if
I should consider myself being \'Arachne Maximalist\', but the
fact is that in his weekly columns, Clarence revealed
so many details and hidden (or rather forgotten) Arachne
features, that even being Arachne\'s author, I was
surprised how meany features were built-in and kept partly
forgotten, partly undocomented, and partly obvious only
to those who use 800x600 or higher resolution ;-)
If you feel like you may have something to say and like
it to be published on Arachne News column, don\'t hesitate
and let us know. You can write about re-using obsolete
computers, or you can just publish links to cool
websites (if they are Arachne compatible), comment latest
news from world, or simply publish anything which may be
interesting to large Arachne user group.
Anyway, I am back in Prague and I am working on new
Arachne release. I wouldn\'t really call my visit to India
\'vacation\', although I was definitely not speding my time
programming there. It is nice co-incidence that according
to Indian press, Bill Gates visited India in the same time
as me - but of course, he came as saviour of poor
children, and as investor reviving weak Indian industry.
At least newspaper descibed his visit in this way ;-)
How can humble tourist from Central Europe meassure with
this ;-) But anyway, I decided to add support for Tibetan
alphabet (and of course Devanagari, Hindi alphabet) to
Arachne. While adding support fo Tibetan language will be
probably only political message, adding Devanagari may
help some people in India to get connected - but of
course, only if corresponding low-end web browsing devices
running Arachne are available. But I am not afraid that
Indian industry is not capable of doing this - if TATA
can produce buses and trucks climbing up to 5300 m high
mountain passes, and solar colectors bringing light to
poor Ladakhi villages, I think someone in India will
definitely manage to produce web browsing terminals sooner
or later ;-) There is already growing Arachne user group
in India, with its population of 1 billion, but of course,
competition of PCs running Windows is very strong even
there - partly because connection costs are probably worse
problem, than cost of new hardware. This is typical for
all countries suffering from communication monopoly.
Note:
Our system administrator has upgraded Arachne Labs web
server while I was away - by now, most problems related
to upgrade to our own \'distribution\' or rather \'mutation\'
of Linux should be solved. Please report all persisting
problems to root@arachne.cz ...
