It seems that I have finaly found really
cool source of space-related news.
In my opinion, there are really many space exploration
fans around the world. There are many web sites which seem
to to be focused on this topic, but quality varies. There is special SPACE news category on CNN.COM, but it is intended mainly for people with just very basic knowledge, and reading those news items, forever explaining the same basic
facts and terms over and over again, can be real pain. The same is true for Spaceflight.nasa.gov and generally most
NASA web sites, unless you manage to find your way through
tons of useless press releases to some really interesting information.
Some other news sources, like Space.com, are not much better, while structure of their web is awful and very hard (or impossible) to navigate with alternative browsers like Arachne.
There also high-quality space flight news sources, like Jonathan Space Report newsletter, but there is another problem with this report - it is text only, and it is really too technical, being based on very detailed list of recent launches.
Fortunately, just recently I have found two very nice sources of space flight history and news.
First is www.spaceflightnow.com, which lists all imporant space-related news, ilustrated, and
(in my opinion) with just right amount of details for typical spaceflight enthusiasts, not satisfied with coverage of space events in average media.
Second nice site, which is much more focused on history
than on latest news, is Encyclopedia Astronautica - www.astronautix.com. It includes very detailed listings of both well known and mysterious space projects, like unsuccesful Russian moon landing project from late 1960s. Ecyclopedia Astronautica seems to be highly objective and edited by well informed
contributors, but for beginner it may be hard to make difference between "reality", ie. those spacecraft who were really built and launched, or attempted to launched, and between dreams and unrealistic plans, which never left drawing boards.
